About the Position

Teachers of Tomorrow, the nation’s largest alternative certification provider, is seeking a Director of Legislative and Regulatory Affairs to lead our efforts in monitoring, analyzing, and influencing legislation and regulations that directly affect our ability to operate and expand into new states. This role will play a pivotal part in equipping the Chief Growth Officer and executive leadership with the insights, strategies, and advocacy tools needed to successfully expand our footprint across the United States. 

While this role is primarily focused on research, analysis, and strategy development, it will also involve managing external lobbying firms and, depending on the candidate’s background, may include direct engagement with state policymakers.

What You Will Do:

Key Responsibilities:

Legislative and Regulatory Monitoring

  • Track, analyze, and interpret proposed legislation, regulatory changes, and policy developments impacting teacher preparation, certification, and education workforce pipelines.
  • Produce timely reports and strategic briefs for the Chief Growth Officer and leadership team to inform decision-making and expansion strategy.
  • Maintain a regulatory database and legislative tracking system to anticipate risks and opportunities in target states. 

Strategic Expansion Support

  • Identify pathways for state expansion, including application processes, statutory changes, and regulatory reforms.
  • Develop policy recommendations and model legislative/regulatory language to support Teachers of Tomorrow’s entry into new markets.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to align regulatory strategy with growth priorities and business objectives. 

Stakeholder Engagement and Advocacy

  • Manage and oversee relationships with external lobby teams, ensuring consistent messaging and high-impact advocacy efforts.
  • Depending on candidate experience and organizational needs, represent Teachers of Tomorrow in direct lobbying efforts before state legislatures and agencies. 

Internal Collaboration and Communication

  • Serve as the subject matter expert on policy and regulatory issues, briefing executives and cross-functional teams as needed.
  • Develop clear, actionable recommendations to support strategic initiatives and risk mitigation.
  • Provide training and guidance to internal teams on legislative/regulatory trends and compliance requirements. 

What We are Looking For 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, education policy, law, or related field, preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in legislative, regulatory, or government affairs roles, or experience within a legislative or committee office preferably at the state level.
  • Demonstrated expertise in legislative and regulatory analysis, with the ability to distill complex issues into clear, actionable insights. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence diverse stakeholders. 

Preferred:

  • Experience managing external lobbyists or advocacy teams
  • Existing relationships with state education policymakers or experience lobbying in state legislatures.
  • Proven ability to balance strategic “back of the house” policy work with external advocacy when needed. Shape
